We've received your contest entry. Cross your fingers—maybe you're the winner! If you want to check out the official rules, you'll find them here.
Because the trivia contest will be live though the end of September, it would be foolish for us to give you the right quiz answers now. (You'd just tell your buddies. We know.) Instead, we'll send out the answers in an upcoming issue of the DevSource e-mail newsletter, to which you can subscribe here (if you did not already do so before).
Clever of us, isn't it? We like to think you'll enjoy more than just the contest results, because DevSource is all about providing useful information to developers.
And, of course, you're welcome to discuss the contest (and your opinion of it) in the DevSource discussion forum. You can chew over the questions and the answers with other programmers—we just won't help you out until the contest is over. (Why yes, that is an evil cackle you hear. You got a problem with that, buddy?)
But just to pique your interest:
Question 3, about the Overloads keyword in Visual Basic, was provided by Microsoft's own Paul Vick, a .NET rock star. Read our interview with him. And, if you're interested in Visual Basic programming, you'll probably also enjoy:
- Sending E-Mail from .Net Applications
- Structured Exception Handling in Visual Studio.Net
- Creating .NET Extensions for Office Applications
...You get the idea.
We have several questions about C++ in the contest (since most developers work with it at least part-time). Learn more about the unique attributes of C++ developers, as well as what's coming in Whidbey for C++ developers and what changes to expect in the next version of the language standard.
Paying attention to code patterns (as in question 5), development methodologies, and QA techiques? You'll find plenty of information at DevSource to scratch your itch, starting with A Gentle Introduction to Software Testing to learning to use the State pattern with a bouncing-ball approach.
In short: we think that DevSource is a WayCool site for any software developer, and particularly for Windows developers. Please check out the joint, and let us know how we could make it better.
