The foundation readies Eclipse TPTP Project release 3.2, which delivers a platform for building software test and performance tools that are used throughout the application life cycle.

The Eclipse Foundation on Tuesday announced that the next version of its test and performance tools project will be available this week.

The Ottawa, Ontario, open-source application development platform provider announced that the Eclipse Test & Performance Tools Platform (TPTP) Project release 3.2 will be available on the Eclipse Foundation Web site this week.

Release 3.2 is the second major release of TPTP since the foundation announced the project in August.

TPTP builds upon the Eclipse Foundation's Hyades Project and delivers a platform for building software test and performance tools that are used throughout the application life cycle, from early testing to production application monitoring, Eclipse Foundation officials said.

Enhancements in TPTP 3.2 include improvements to the platform's user interface, data-collection and Java tracing system, as well as improved statistical analysis representation, enhanced documentation, simplified test deployment and improved execution history, Eclipse officials said.

"TPTP has made remarkable progress toward becoming a viable platform choice for Intel performance analysis tools in environments where options are limited such as Linux," Tyler Thessin, engineering manager for Intel Software Development Products and project lead for the TPTP Project, said in a statement.

"This latest release of TPTP again demonstrates the power of the open-source development model," Robert Levy, senior vice president of development at Computer Associates International Inc., said in a statement.

"CA will continue to leverage TPTP to help our customers maximize the technical performance and business value of their enterprise Java-based systems."

CA announced its membership in Eclipse on Monday. The Islandia, N.Y., company also is project lead for the TPTP effort, the company said.
