Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdrey caused a fuss Thursday by saying Steve Ballmer would be appearing at Apple's WWDC in San Francisco next month. Unlikely though that might seem, Chowdrey further claimed seven minutes of a Steve Jobs keynote had been blocked off so Ballmer could discuss Visual Studio 210, a modified version of which would allow developers to write native applications for the iPhone, IPad, and Mac OS.
An apparently amused Apple spokesperson poured cold water on that notion later the same day by Tweeting, "Steve Ballmer not speaking at Apple Dev Conf. Nor appearing on Dancing with the Stars. Nor riding in the Belmont. Just FYI."
Ballmer -- who earlier this week gained additional responsibility for Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices division, following reports that president Robbie Bach and senior vice president J Allard are leaving -- is definitely on the move, however. Earlier today, he delivered a keynote at Microsoft's IndiMix 2010 event in Mumbai.
While the keynote reportedly provided no announcements worthy of note, the Tech Ticker blog noted a slide showcasing Windows Phone devices. This is said to have listed 50 Windows Mobile phones as having been launched last year, plus 30 new models that will be launched "in the coming quarter."
As Tech Ticker writer Kunal Gangar added, the slide did not reveal what OS the new devices would be running. However, the number of Windows Mobile 6.x phones has tapered off significantly since Microsoft announced Windows Phone 7 for release later this year. The implication is, therefore, that for so many phones to be contemplated in the near term, Phone 7's launch may take place in early fall rather than the "holiday season" earlier reports had implied.
