Jesse James Garrett is the "notorious" father of AJAX. You may not also realize that he's also a writer, interface developer and designer, information architect, and experience strategist. He co-founded Adaptive Path in 2001, where he is now Director of User Experience Strategy. Garrett is the author of the popular book, The Elements of User Experience, and other groundbreaking works, and co-founder of the Information Architecture Institute.

With all that expertise behind him, it was a no-brainer to ask him to sit down with us for the fourth DevSource video. In it, Garrett discusses the advantages of AJAX, and what it's best suited for. He also explains the scenarios in which Flash might be a better choice. So, if you're interested in AJAX at all, you'll definitely want to hear what he has to say.

However, Garrett suggested AJAX to solve a certain set of problems, and in this interview he discusses what those are. The conversation ranges from the cultural differences between different development communities to the importance of deeper UI elements in product (not just software) design, to why the application design process is more complicated than many users and businesses think it it should be. You'll also hear his opinions on the developer's ability to advocate for better user experience in the corporate environment, building web teams, and the mindset of the user versus the developer's viewpoint.
